2007 - MADRID - The topic of the Spanish Civil War gave us the opportunity for our first society trip-to Madrid. We started with a talk at the Ogilvy Madrid office given by Fernando Romero who had run the office in the 1990's. As a student activist he had been imprisoned by the Franco regime and has since authored a book on the civil war. A guide then acccompanied us on a visit to Franco's tomb and the eerie "Valley of The Fallen" built to commemorate the dead who fought for the Republic by, controversially, convicts including political opponents of Franco.
